Things You May Be Wondering
Before taking the first step, it can help to know what’s waiting on the path ahead. Here are some answers to the questions people often ask before we begin:
What happens in the first session?
The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another. We’ll talk about what’s brought you to counselling, what you’re hoping for, and any questions or concerns you may have. There is no pressure to share everything straight away. We will move at a pace that feels comfortable for you and begin building a therapeutic relationship based on trust, empathy and acceptance.
How often do sessions take place?
Most clients attend weekly sessions, as this provides consistency and allows the therapeutic relationship to develop over time. However, we can discuss what feels most appropriate for your individual needs and circumstances.
How do I know if counselling is right for me?
You don’t need to be in crisis or have everything figured out to benefit from counselling. People come to therapy for many different reasons, including feeling overwhelmed, anxious, low in mood, stuck, uncertain or simply wanting a space that is entirely their own. If you’re unsure whether counselling is right for you, a free introductory call can help us explore whether it feels like the right next step.
Do you work online?
Yes. I offer both online and in-person counselling, allowing you to choose the setting that feels most comfortable and accessible for you. Online sessions take place via a secure video platform and provide the same confidential, therapeutic space as face-to-face sessions.
How long are sessions?
Counselling sessions last 50 minutes. Your free introductory call lasts 15 minutes and gives us the chance to discuss what you’re looking for, answer any questions and decide whether Wildflower Fate Counselling feels like the right fit for you.
Where are you based?
I am based in Bourne, Lincolnshire, offering in-person counselling locally as well as online sessions for clients across the UK. I also offer Walk and Talk Nature Counselling in suitable local outdoor spaces.
Is counselling confidential?
Confidentiality is a fundamental part of counselling. Everything you share will be treated with care and respect. There are a small number of legal and ethical circumstances where confidentiality may need to be broken, such as if there is a serious risk of harm to yourself or someone else. If this were ever necessary, I would aim to discuss it with you wherever possible.
What is person-centred counselling?
Person-centred counselling is based on the belief that you are the expert in your own life. Rather than offering advice or telling you what to do, I provide a warm, accepting and collaborative space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences without judgement. Together, we work at your pace, helping you develop a deeper understanding of yourself and find a way forward that feels right for you.
What happens if I need to cancel?
If you need to cancel or rearrange a session, I kindly ask for at least 48 hours’ notice wherever possible. This allows me to offer the appointment to someone else who may be waiting. A full refund will be given should you cancel prior to 48 hours before the scheduled session. Cancellations made with less than 48 hours’ notice will be charged at the full session fee, except in exceptional circumstances.
Who do you work with?
I work with children (aged 4+), young people (aged 16+) and adults. You’re always welcome at Wildflower Fate Counselling.
How many sessions will I need?
There isn’t a set number. Some people come for a few sessions around a specific issue, while others choose longer-term counselling. We will regularly review how therapy is feeling and decide together what feels right for you.
What if I don’t know what to talk about?
That’s completely okay. Many people arrive feeling unsure where to begin. We can gently explore whatever feels most present, even if it’s difficult to put into words. You don’t need to have everything figured out before coming to counselling.
What if I’m nervous about counselling?
Feeling nervous is incredibly common because starting counselling can feel like a big step, especially if you’ve never spoken to someone before. My aim is to create a space where you feel accepted, listened to and under no pressure to share more than you’re ready to.
